Dec. 5: Top-ranked Hopkins hosts Elk River in finale

Court 1 Previews

Russell

9:30 a.m. on Main Court:

Osseo vs. Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie looks to be in full rebuilding mode with a new coach (Faith Johnson Patterson) and the departure of Chrissy Carr to Minnetonka. Eastern Michigan commit Esabelle Levine will lead this group this year with her toughness and competitiveness.

Osseo will bring one of the more athletic teams in the state, led by Arizona State commit Kiara Russell. The Orioles will be battle tested after a tough game vs. St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday.

Prediction: Osseo by 12

Marshall vs Kasson-Mantorville

Kasson-Mantorville is fresh off a state tournament appearance last year, but will look to replace a very talented senior class. The KoMets still bring back a pair of 6’2” post players in Kristin Scott and Peyton Suess, which gives them one of the best front-courts in the state.

Marshall is a perennial power on the southwest part of the state, and don’t expect this season to be any difference. The Tigers open up their season on Friday against their old section foe, Hutchinson, which will give them a great test to start their season.

Prediction: Kasson-Mantorville by 5

Hayes

12:45 p.m. on Main Court

St. Michael-Albertville vs. Park Center

This is one of the most intriguing matchups of the day. St. Michael-Albertville will be led by Iowa State commit Rae Johnson and South Dakota State commit Sydney Tracy, as the Knights look to continue their run of consecutive state tournament appearances.

Park Center is making the move to Class AAAA this year, but don’t think the Pirates aren’t ready. They have played among the toughest schedules in the entire state the last few years. Danielle Schaub takes over for her sister at the point guard spot this year and leads a high powered offense including Florida commit Mikayla Hayes.

Prediction: Park Center by 3

Bates

7:00 p.m. on Main Court

Elk River vs. Hopkins

Elk River plays a very hard-nosed style of basketball, which makes the Elks one of the best candidates to take down the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Abi Scheid is a force in the middle, but they have shooters to go around her that makes the very hard to defend.

Hopkins counters with one of the best guard combos in the state, Nia Hollie and Ashley Bates. The Royals are so deep with great players, that their second unit could beat quite a few Class AAAA teams out there. The only question mark surrounding this game is their ability to defend Scheid in the post.

Prediction: Hopkins by 18
