Winter basketball event schedules released!

Check out the Breakdown's 2018-19 schedule of basketball events!

The Breakdown is pleased to announce the schedules for our upcoming 2018-19 basketball events, which include:

  • Girls' Tip Off Classic on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at Hopkins' Lindbergh Center
  • NEW! Boys' Big 12 Classic on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at Cretin-Derham Hall High School
  • Boys' Tip Off Classic on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at Hopkins' Lindbergh Center
  • Granite City Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 22-29, 2018 at St. Cloud Apollo High School and St. Cloud State University
  • NEW! Crossover Classic on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at Perham High School
  • Lake Superior Classic on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at Duluth East High School
  • MN-WI Border Battle on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at East Ridge High School
  • Community Clash on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at St. Michael-Albertville High School and Middle School West
  • Winter Lakes Classic on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at Alexandria HS

Please note: Match-ups in most events are set but game times are subject to change. Match-ups for the Tip Off Classics and Granite City Classic are still to be announced.


Tip Off Classic information

The Tip Off Classic began back in January of 2004.  The Breakdown staff wanted to showcase teams from across the state and provide unique, competitive matchups.  We also wanted to have top-rated teams with state tournaments aspirations.

The experiment worked out so well that now we host the No. 1 single day classic in Minnesota.

The boys and girls Tip Off Classic are run on different Saturdays in late November/early December.

Tickets for Friday, Nov. 22 are $8 for adults and $6 for students/seniors.

Tickets for Saturday, Nov. 23 are $12 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at each school for Saturday's event for $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors.


Big 12 Classic information

The 3rd annual Breakdown Big 12 Classic will be held in late November, 2020 at Champlin Park High School, bringing together 12 of the best programs in the Twin Cities metro area for a collision of superpowers.

Tickets and game times for the 2020 event will be announced at a later date.


Mauer Chevrolet Buick GMC Boys' Tip Off Classic information

The Mauer Chevrolet Buick GMC Boys' Tip Off Classic began back in January of 2004.  The Breakdown staff wanted to showcase teams from across the state and provide unique, competitive matchups.  We also wanted to have top-rated teams with state tournaments aspirations.

Tickets for Saturday, Dec. 7 are $12 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at each school for $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors.


Granite City Classic information

The Granite City Classic is one of the most popular holiday tournaments in the St. Cloud area. 

The Breakdown took over the sponsorship of the holiday classic a few years ago and looks to have teams from the St. Cloud area in a tournament to enjoy for all.  The tournament is annually at the end of December each year.

Single-day tickets for the tournament are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors ($8 and $6 for the lower-level events).


Crossover Classic information

The 3rd annual Crossover Classic will be held in early January at Perham High School in northwestern Minnesota!

In early-January every year, we plan bring teams from across the state to take on programs from the northwestern corner of the state. It promises to be a highly-anticipated and exciting time for basketball fans from around the state.

Tickets and game times for the 2021 event will be announced at a later date.


Lake Superior Classic information

The Lake Superior Classic is a reboot of our former Martin Luther King, Jr. Classic, but now held at Duluth East's terrific new high school gymnasium!

In mid-January every year, we bring teams from across the state to take on programs from the northeastern corner of the state at Duluth East High School. The Breakdown will host the 8th annual event in Jan. 2021 at Duluth East HS -- and it promises to be a highly-anticipated and exciting time for basketball fans from around the state.

Tickets and game times for the 2021 event will be announced at a later date.


Border Battle information

The Minnesota vs. Wisconsin Border Battle is an annual event conceived by the BREAKDOWN and the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook in the winter of 2006 as a way to pit some of the top teams from Minnesota and Wisconsin against each other at a site rotating between the two states.  

The 15th annual event will be held in Jan. 2021 at Minneapolis North HS -- and it promises to be a highly-anticipated and exciting time for basketball fans from around the region.


Winter Lakes Classic information

The Winter Lakes Classic is another of our special annual basketball events!

In mid-February every year, we bring teams from across the state to the beautiful new Alexandria High School facilities for a day of top basketball. There will be varsity games, as well as JV, sophomore and freshman level games in the auxiliary gym.

The Breakdown will host the 6th annual event in Feb. 2021 at Alexandria -- and it promises to be a highly-anticipated and exciting time for basketball fans from around the state.

Tickets and game times for the 2021 event will be announced at a later date.


Community Clash information

The Community Clash is one of the newest of our special annual basketball events! In mid-February every year, we bring together the boys and girls programs from rival towns to go head-to-head in a day of top basketball. There will be varsity games, as well as JV, sophomore and freshman level games in the morning.

The Breakdown will host the 6th annual event in Feb. 2021 at St. Michael-Albertville HS and MS West — and it promises to be a highly-anticipated and exciting time for basketball fans from around the state.

Match-ups, times, and tickets for the 2021 event will be announced at a later date.
