Some (very) young star power enters the East Court for a matchup between Minnehaha and St. Cloud Cathedral. 6-foot-7 freshman Javonni Bickham and 7th-grader Jalen Suggs run the floor for Minnehaha, the latter of whom has been labeled a phenom by some. The first half is a slow affair, as Suggs leads his Redhawks with 8 points and O’Hagan/Theisen each have 7 for SCC. The score at half is 23-21, Minnehaha.
Cathedral builds a lead back up as they catch Minnehaha off-guard. The game creeps into the 30s, SCC takes a lead and loses it, and SCC’s coach is not happy. He calls a timeout and tries to get his boys composed. Some gritty play takes place for several minutes, and almost all of the buckets scored are around the hoop. At a 45-45 tie, reserve Kyle Kispert drives and scores for Minnehaha. Bohlig makes one of two at the line and we’re now under two minutes. Theisen stays calm and hits two more from the charity stripe, only to have Bickham answer on the other end. With 18 seconds left, SCC’s Theisen can’t get a look, so he passes off to Bohlig. He puts up a contested 3, and there’s no foul call. Final is in Minnehaha’s favor, 49-48.
