Breck scorches the nets and holds off a Redwood comeback

Strong senior guard play on both sides of this one as Sam Pendleton and Redwood Valley take on Will Culliton, Mo Lawal and Breck. Each team stays within a basket of each other until a Mo Lawal 3 gives Breck a 26-20 edge. Several more baskets -- including deep looks from Culliton and Henry Cousineau -- forces Redwood Valley to call a timeout, down 34-20. They recover and go into half down seven, despite being assaulted from beyond the arc by Culliton (four 3-pointers). Sam Pendleton racked up 17 points for Redwood in the first, with the score sitting at 42-35.

With four 3-pointers in the first, Culliton added three more to help the Mustangs pull away by more than 20 points. Just when it looked like Redwood Valley was out of the contest, Cade Johnson scores five points and a few others help cut the deficit to 11. The game suddenly ignites, and midway through the second half a run-and-gun 3-point contest begins. By the time Johnson hits his fourth 3-pointer, Breck is only up 73-67 after being up by as much as 22. Time was not on Redwood’s side, however, as Breck begins to run the clock and Johnson fouls out. Breck hits its free throws and wins 78-73.
