Tigers senior Wyatt Ferm hits nine from deep en route to 31 total points

Missing whom many consider to be Farmington's best player in Zach Speikers due to an ACL injury, the Tigers had a different senior step up early against Holy Family with Wyatt Ferm.

Four 3-pointers from Ferm in the game’s first six minutes helped the Tigers jump out to an early lead. After building its lead to as much as 10, Farmington let Holy Family creep back in with some Justin Dahl putbacks and outside shooting. At the four-minute mark, Holy Family took a 22-21 advantage with a low-post shot from Dahl. Things stayed close until half, as Ferm bagged yet another shot from the perimeter and gained some separation, 31-26.

Farmington came out of the break swinging as Ferm continued to volume shoot. The scoring diversifies a bit, and Fire senior Jack Mugford gets his squad within two as he hits his fifth 3-pointer. Holy Family climbs within one at the six-minute mark, and a Mugford turnaround J gives them their first lead of the game at 51-50. After a somewhat cold second half from outside, Ferm cashes another from outside to give Farmington the lead back, 55-53. Both teams enter pressure zone defense, but that’s no worry for Dahl. With his size, there’s nobody on Farmington that can match up, and he drives and scores to tie things up at 55-55. This is a serious ball game.

Farmington comes out and stifles not one, but two close basket attempts from the Fire. Coach Wyandt calls a timeout with 45 seconds left and sets up a five-out situation, passing and cutting. Looks like they want Dahl as far from the hoop as possible. Farmington moves the ball for 30 seconds and call another timeout; a 3-point attempt from Lucas Berg does not fall, and we’re headed to overtime.

A four-minute overtime period kicks off with a Mugford three. Berg makes up for his miss at the end of regulation with a response from the perimeter; we’re tied up again at 58-all with two minutes left. A Dahl free throw gives the Fire a one-point edge. Ferm hits his biggest three of the game with 45 seconds left in OT; a Mugford missed layup gives Farmington the ball and the 61-59 lead with 30 left. Berg cuts through the full-court press and hits a lay-up plus a foul for the Tigers. The free throw makes it 64-59, and that seals it for Farmington.
