Tip Off Classic recap: Eden Prairie pulls away from Champlin Park 56-42
This is the last time we’ll say it. Champlin Park, playing without point guard Sidney Hilley, and Eden Prairie, playing without Martha Kuderer, slogged their way through an unusually methodical game for this day at the otherwise racehorse Tip Off Classic, the Eagles pulling away from a two-point halftime lead to win by 14.
Eden Prairie led 23-21 as freshman guard Christianna Carr scored 5 first half points. Junior post Hanna Crymble had 7 for Champlin. Carr and Emma Boehm got the offense going a little bit in the second half, scoring 10 points each. Carr went stronger to the hoop than we’ve seen at the varsity level.
Crymble was held to just 2 second half points. Senior forward Cat Etheridge scored 5 in each half to lead the Rebels with 10.
So, no more Hilley, no more Kuderer. As the coaches say, let’s talk about the girls that are here. The Eagles lineup is familiar, so we’ll just mention Champlin’s 5-5 freshman guard Erica Hicks, who scored 5 in the second half. She looks like a keeper. Gabby Mocchi and Amanda Pollard are freshmen, too, so the future still looks bright at Champlin. But this year it looks a little brighter for Eden Prairie.
