Tip Off Classic recap: Blooming Prairie slows Mountain Iron-Buhl down but slows itself down even more
It was run ‘n gun Mountain Iron-Buhl versus a classic inside-out team in Blooming Prairie. And while you could say that the Awesome Blossoms controlled the pace, it was MIB that controlled the outcome.
BP stayed close to 12-10, working the ball inside to 6-2 D1 recruit Taylor Hagen. But Tatum Primeau and Kianna Martinson each hit a three in an MIB run to a 22-15 lead, and they kept firing away until it was 32-18 at the half.
Chelsea Mason went down briefly with a knee injury for MIB but she returned in the second half and did not appear to be hurt at all seriously. The Rangers kept trying to speed it up and the Blossoms to slow it down. They often used Hagen to bring the ball up the floor as her “man” was the only one who couldn’t put significant pressure on. But that ate up a lot of time and took her out of the offense a little bit, too.
She led the Rangers in scoring with 14 points, while Lyssie McCullough added 12. Hagen led BP with 8, mostly in the first half.
