Apple Valley and Waukee (Iowa) played about as even of a first half as they could with a 33-32 halftime score.  Iowa State signed football recruit Anthony Nelson controlled the first half working his way to 13 points as he took about half his teams shots and scored around the rim.  Jordan Bolton countered for the Eagles scoring five times on the move as the Iowa guards couldn’t keep Bolton in front.  Bolton’s trademark pull-up middle wasn’t stopped.  

The second half opened with Apple Valley transitioning every Waukee miss or turnover into a fast break score for Tre Jones.  The Eagle freshman (Jones) scored four times in 78 seconds simply running with his team and finishing the variety of breaks they created (2 on 1, 3 on 1, 3 on 2, etc) as a group.  That gave the Eagles a four basket advantage and then Cameron Kirksey hit back to back treys from the corner putting the Eagles ahead 58-43 forcing a Waukee timeout.

Nebraska signed wing Michael Jacobson changed the contest with a contested long jumper and then a three-pointer in transition.  Nelson helped out with spin move into a reverse followed by a Jacobson cut and score bringing Waukee within four points at 66-62.  The Waukee run ended up being too little too late though as they had to foul and Jordan Bolton made four foul shots down the stretch to give the Eagles the game 70-65.

Jordan Bolton and Cameron Kirksey had banner games on the big stage each scoring 18 points to lead the Eagles.  Nelson scored a game high 26 points with eight rebounds while Jacobson scored 21 points with nine rebounds.
