Minnetonka limits Roseville to just 22 points in victory

Minnetonka defeated Roseville 53-22 in the third girl’s matchup of the Breakdown Tip Off Classic on the Main Court at Hopkins Lindbergh Center.

The marquee match up was the Skippers’ Courtney Fredrickson, who is Northstar Girl’s Hoops top rated player in the class of 2016, and Roseville’s Monica Burich, who is ranked third in the class of 2015. Both are listed at 6’2” and can play virtually anywhere.

Both teams started slowly as Burich scored Roseville's first five points for a 5-4 lead. Roseville still led 7-6 but Fredrickson and Caroline Shalquist too charge for Tonka. The Skippers went up 14-9 and, after Burich went to the bench with her third foul, quickly stretched in out to 29-9 at the half.

Burich had seven of the Raider’s nine first half points. They were unable to get anything going offensively with her on the bench. For the Skippers, Fredrickson led the way with seven points while Mershon and Hamilton each had four.

It was 35-9 when Roseville finally ended a 13-minute scoring drought but it was too little, too late. In the battle of the forwards, Burich and Fredrickson both finished with nine points. The difference was Fredrickson has a strong supporting cast when Burich did not.
