The Breakdown

Team Name: DeLaSalle Islanders
Head Coach: David Thorson, 18th year
Current Record: 13-1 (Through Jan. 28)
Ranked: No. 1 among 3A schools by Minnesota Basketball News
Notes: Regardless of what the QRF ranking says DeLaSalle is the best team in Minnesota and it’s not even close.  In fact, after beating the big school number one in Minnesota (Park Center), the best in South Dakota (White River), one of the best in New York City (Our Savior New American), and one of Iowa’s elite (Ankeny), DeLaSalle has ranked themselves as one of the elite in the Midwest.  The only blemish on their record is a 57-52 loss to Blue Valley Northwest of Kansas who is one of the top couple ranked teams in the Midwest.  Inside Minnesota nobody has come within double figures and that includes Class AAAA top ten teams Park Center and Eden Prairie.  In fact, four Minnesota teams didn’t come within 40 if the Islanders.
Coach David Thorson has a dominating team lead by a dominating player.  The Islanders have a balanced group of players but because junior Reid Travis is such a physical rarity around the basket he puts up a massive 30 points a game.  He’s also the top rebounder in state of Minnesota in terms of ability and production.
In support senior Luke Scott gives his team 14 points a night ranking as one of the best shooters in state.  From there Jarvis Johnson (8.0 ppg),  Sacar Anim (7.4 pgg), Trey Shepherd (6.5 ppg), Geno Crandall (6.2 ppg), James Lawson (4.9 ppg), and Drayton Carlberg (3.4 ppg) all come off the bench to provide depth.  Johnson, Anim, and Carlberg are all sophomores who have big potential.
