Q and A

Give me a short scouting report on yourself as a player. What are your strengths?

  • My greatest strengths are hitting and tracking balls in the outfield. Hitting is a huge part of my softball game and I've been working on improving my form and power since 7th grade. I just started playing outfield during my junior year of high school, but I'm very fast and can cover a large area of the outfield and have done very well out there.

Can you tell us one unusual thing about yourself that others may not know?

  • One thing people might not know about me is that I started collecting cool or unique looking rocks when I was little and I still have them in a little box in my room.

What's the best part of playing high school softball and why?

  • The best part of playing high school softball is the bond you form with your teammates. I've made so many close friends because of this sport. It makes playing softball just that much more fun, and it allows the team to have complete trust in one another on and off the field.

Tell me about the outlook for your team this year. What are the strengths of your team?

  • Our team this year should be fairly strong. Although our starting pitcher graduated, we still have a great group of girls returning, along with some younger girls who will have to take on new roles. The development of our pitchers will play a big part in our ability to thrive this year, and if they do this I think we will be a very big threat. Our offense will be very strong this year and I'm really looking forward to the start of my senior season with this team.

What other activities are you involved in at the high school level?

  • Other than softball, I am also involved in volleyball, National Honor Society, Key Club, and Interact.

What type of training do you do in the offseason?

  • In the offseason I lift weights and do sprints almost every day of the week, practice hitting off of tees usually 5 times a week, and practice defense with some of my teammates once a week at our community center.

Breakdown featuring our daily spotlight players

Every weekday until the official high school sports seasons begin (an unknown date with the current world situation), BREAKDOWN SPORTS will be featuring a spotlight player in each of the seven sports we cover!

With the high school sports world on pause, THE BREAKDOWN wants to make sure these athletes are recognized for their accomplishments on the field, court, rink, diamond, etc.

The schedule of spotlight players will be as follows:

  • Monday: softball
  • Tuesday: baseball
  • Wednesday: girls' volleyball
  • Thursday: boys' and girls' basketball

Each of our spotlight players will have action and posed photos, as well as the Q and A information they provided for this past year's Breakdown book in their respective sport.
