Roseau vs. Moorhead
6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24

No. 18-2A Moorhead (10-6-2) isn’t one of the state’s oldest programs, but it is one of the more prolific. It’s been a great 50-year run for the Spuds. They’ve traded section championships with Roseau for the past 19 years (no other team in that span has represented Class 2A, Section 8 at state), with the Rams claiming last year’s state bid. Moorhead took the first meeting between the two this year, rallying from a second-period deficit to beat the Rams 4-2 in Roseau on Dec. 9. Jack Fahrendorf (5-13-18) had two goals and an assist and Jacob Dittmer (9-5-2, 2.48, .919) stopped 26 of 28 shots.

It’s been a tough start to the year for Roseau (8-8-0), which is uncharacteristically hovering around .500 midway through January. But Rams’ coach Andy Lundbohm knew he’d have a rebuilding effort, as his program graduated nearly every key player from last year’s state tournament qualifier. Roseau has scored just one goal in its last two games, both losses. Bryden Stoskopf (9-8-17) leads the Rams in goals and points, just ahead of Brandon Lund (5-11-16) and Logan Monsrud (7-9-16).
