Highlights: Thursday, Feb. 9

Champlin Park 64, Centennial 60. Allison Gerads scored a season-high 23 points to lead Champlin Park (17-5, 8-2) past No. 6-4A Centennial (18-4, 8-2). Erica Hicks chipped in 18 points and Amanda Pollard added 11 points for the Rebels in victory. Centennial’s offense was led by the Stapleton sisters: sophomore Sara scored 18 and junior Sydney put in 10. 

Holy Angels 64, DeLaSalle 63. The No. 3-3A Stars held on for a riveting one-point victory over DeLaSalle Thursday night. Destinee Oberg scored 25 points to lead Holy Angels (20-2, 4-0) while Riley Thalhuber and Megan Meyer contributed 16 and 11 points respectively. The Islanders featured a balanced scoring approach: Olivia Travis paced the club with 17 points but Kate Graham scored 14, Ayanna Gardner had 13 and Mary Claire Francois scored 10 points for DeLaSalle (11-9, 2-2). 

Elk River 72, Anoka 57. No. 2-4A Elk River (22-0, 10-0) smashed Anoka by fifteen points to remain undefeated. Unsurprisingly, Gabi Haack led the way for Elk River with 23 points. The Bradley-bound senior guard ranks second in the state in total points (555) and fourth in points per game (26.4). Ava Kramer added 14 points and Kelsie Cox scored 13 for the Elks. Brittany Bongartz led Anoka (10-11, 3-7) with 17 points. Noelle Josephson and Abby Slater contributed 15 and 14 points respectively in the loss. 

Park Center 81, Totino-Grace 31. First the No. 10-4A Pirates hung an unreal 50 points on Totino-Grace. Then, they cruised to victory by that same margin. 10 different Pirates scored in the contest. Sommer Blakemore netted 18, Meghan DuBois scored 13, and Danielle Schaub added 12 for Park Center (17-5, 10-0). Totino-Grace (8-13, 5-5) suffered their worst loss of the season. The Eagles were topped by Madison Doran’s eight points. 

St. Paul Como Park 95, St. Paul Harding 61. The Cougars (15-7, 10-0) kept their hold on first place in the St. Paul City Conference, blowing out Harding by 34 points. In the win, Makayla Van Nett scored a whopping 43 points for Como Park. The junior guard ranks eighth statewide in points (460) and fourth in three-pointers made (61). Asiza Shepherd also scored 17 for Como Park. Emma Ogitchida’s 19 points were enough to lead the Knights (7-10, 5-5) and Dre’annah Owens had 13 in the loss. 

Andover 52, Blaine 39. DePaul-bound senior Jolene Danninger scored nearly half her team’s points. Her 25 was enough to give the Huskies (14-8, 5-6). Earlier this year, Danninger was named on the Minnesota Miss Basketball first-cut list. She ranks fifth in the state with 57 three-pointers. Theresa Grace Mbanefo scored 13 points for Blaine (6-16, 0-9) who remains winless in Northwest Suburban Conference play.

Norwood Young America 82, Belle Plaine 46. No. 6-2A Norwood (21-1, 10-0) maintained their sterling record, disposing of Belle Plaine (2-20, 1-10) by outscoring them by 22 points in the game’s second half. Kali Grimm’s 22 points were enough to keep Norwood stationed atop the Minnesota River Conference. Abby Mackenthun and Bren Fox chipped in 16 each in the victory. Elizabeth Johnson and Sara Lenz led Belle Plaine, each scoring 12 points.

Mayer Lutheran 77, Sibley East 50. Mya Chmielewski scored 26 points to lead Mayer Lutheran (15-6, 8-2) past Sibley East. Maddy Hucky scored 12 points and Emilee Gustin added 11 for Lutheran in the win. Hannah Wentzlaff paced the Wolverines (9-12, 4-6) with 25 points despite the loss. 

St. Anthony 78, Concordia Academy 54. Nicole Zielsdorf scored a season-high 26 points for the Huskies, who trail St. Croix Lutheran by just half a game in the Tri-Metro East conference. Samantha Sibbet also scored 20 points for St. Anthony (15-5, 4-1) and Abby Koenig-Meehan added 14. The game was close in the second half but the Husky defense smothered Concordia in the second, limiting the Beacons to just 19 points. Lydia Lecher’s 18 points were tops for Concordia (10-11, 2-3) while Anika Neuman also added 12 points.
