Breakdown Sports USA to receive State Farm Exist to Assist award at upcoming Minnesota Timberwolves’ game

Breakdown owner Justin Hegna will accept award during Jan. 23 game against Memphis

CLEAR LAKE, Minn. (Jan. 19, 2016) – The National Basketball Association’s Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx will recognize the first recipient of the STATE FARM EXIST TO ASSIST AWARD — BREAKDOWN SPORTS USA and owner/founder Justin Hegna, former Becker graduate, teacher and coach — this Saturday, Jan 23, 2016 at Target Center during the Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies game.

The Lynx and Wolves plan to recognize and reward community leaders that assist the game of basketball in their neighborhoods with an award and a contribution to their efforts. Hegna will be announced during the game and will receive this award on the court. 

Hegna is the owner and founder of Breakdown Sports USA since 2001.  Over that time, Breakdown Sports USA has published over 55 publications with sales to more than 100,000 people nationwide. Breakdown Sports USA also hosts the state’s largest events for basketball, servicing over 15,000 players in 2015 alone.  The company has continued to grow, now producing publications in basketball, hockey, baseball, and volleyball, with future sports on the horizon. Breakdown Sports USA is also working with other states to form events, and in 2016 will be hosting events in other states. 

Hegna is a 1991 graduate of Becker High School.  He is still holds the all-time career scoring record for boys basketball at the school. He also participated and played in Becker’s first football Prep Bowl in 1991.  Hegna also was a teacher in Becker from 1998-2014.   Hegna was the head coach of the Becker girls’ basketball team in their greatest season ever, leading them to the 2007 Class AAA state championship.  He was named the Minnesota State Coach of the Year in the 2007, and also was a three-time section coach of the year selection.
