When John Skrbec shows up at North Dakota State freshman orientation Thursday, he’ll be bringing a piece of equipment other than a baseball bat and glove: He’ll be in a wheelchair.

The Grand Rapids graduate had surgery last week after completely tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and partially tearing the meniscus in his right knee in a loss to Forest Lake in the Section 7AAA championship game June 11.
