Eagan is 2-2 at this point with wins over Sibley and Chaska but losses to Wayzata and Bloomington Jefferson.  Eagan has a tough week ahead playing EP on Tuesday, Eastview on Friday, and Orono the next AM…

Orono is 4-1 with quality wins over Monticello and St. Paul Central and a loss against Marshall…Cole Hennings is continuing his scoring run from last year’s post season by scoring 20 a game through five games of his senior campaign.  Junior Sam Sustacek is leading the team in boards and scoring 15 a contest….

Eagan backcourt members Bryndan Matthews and Chase Seiberlich are the Wildcats putting up double figure numbers with 17 points a contest each…

Key Matchup

Cole Hennings, Orono vs Bryndan Matthews, Eagan

These are lead guard who double as leading scorers for their teams.  Orono’s scoring is very balanced across the board while Eagan’s backcourt trio leads the in production.  These two both score, and create for others.

Prediction

Why Orono will win:  The Spartans have had more success as a team.  They’ve been to the state tournament earning third place last year in Class AAA and their rotation has been filled out by quality seniors along with the top players from last season.  They are off to a good start again, they know how to wing.

Why Eagan will win:  Day by day, Eagan plays tougher competition.  They have three backcourt talents in Matthews, Seiberlich, and GT Johnson who will play college basketball and that group should be able to outplay the Orono backcourt.
