The first few weeks of the Minnesota boys’ high school hockey season consist of many nonconference, non-section games that don’t necessarily have a huge bearing on the way the rest of the season plays out, but are capable of providing fun matchups that fans wouldn’t otherwise see.
With a few exceptions.
One of those “games that matter” is Tuesday night when Lakeville North, ranked No. 2 in the latest Class 2A coaches poll, visits unranked Farmington. The game is a rematch of the Class 2A, Section 1 championship from a year ago and features two programs definitely on the rise.
The Panthers defeated the Tigers 6-0 in the title game, a victory that not only ended Farmington's 18-game winning streak, but also propelled Lakeville North to the state tournament.
A rematch this early in the season makes this our top Game of the Week.
