Fourteen top games highlight Breakdown's annual Granite City Classic

The Breakdown Sports Granite City Classic brings together 14 top boys’ hoops teams over the holidays

The scripted two-day showcase at St. Cloud Apollo High School  and St. Cloud State University features defending Class 4A state champion Apple Valley with Tre Jones and Gary Trent, Jr.

 ST. CLOUD, Minn. (June 7, 2015) – High school basketball fans seeking a post-holiday treat need look no further than the BREAKDOWN SPORTS Granite City Classic. The scripted two-day showcase at St. Cloud Apollo High School and St. Cloud State University on Dec. 29-30, 2015 features 14 games between many top teams from around the state of Minnesota.

We’ve pulled together a terrific lineup that is highlighted by defending Class 4A champion Apple Valley and highly-regarded prospects Tre Jones, Gary Trent, Jr., Brock Bertram, Jordan Bolton, Cameron Kirksey and more. The Eagles will be featured in games against deep programs in Wayzata and Maple Grove, which has its own quartet of top college prospects in senior Reed Nikko and juniors Brad Davison, Jack Hutchison and Tywhon Pickford. Wayzata is paced by All-Conference seniors Johnny Beeninga, Austin Slater and Jack Sowada.

Other top teams and players include: Class 4A runner-up Champlin Park with the inside-out duo of juniors Theo John and McKinley Wright; Rocori with its all-conference trio of Jon Olson, Austin Overman and Connor Schoborg; St. Cloud Apollo, which is anchored by big man Ethan Novacinski; Albany with shooter Kyle Birr; Monticello with rising young guard Matt Todd; Minneapolis North's loaded squad including two-time city conference player of the year Tyler Johnson and big man Jamil Jackson; Orono with athletic big man Sam Sustacek; Rogers and its combo of Steffan Musoke and Allen Wilson; Sartell-St. Stephen with senior forward Jacob Lieberg; Becker and 6-foot-6 forward Dillon Radunz; and St. Cloud Tech with young guards Chuol Rauch and Brevyn Spann-Ford.

Game times will be announced at a later date. Note, there will also be freshmen, sophomore, and JV games played on both days, also to be announced later.

The BREAKDOWN took over the sponsorship of the original Granite City Classic tournament a few years ago and seeks to match teams from the St. Cloud area against other state powers for all to enjoy. The tournament is annually held at the end of December.
