Stars of the day

1. Carlie Wagner, NRHEG
Wagner outshone a new state scoring record in leading NRHEG past defending Class AA champion Braham. The sophomore poured in 43 points (just four shy of the state tournament record) and outgunned the Bombers' Rebekah Dahlman, who had 29 points to shatter the all-time career scoring record previously held by Minneapolis South's Tayler Hill.

2. Nia Coffey, Hopkins
The junior guard nearly had a triple-double with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 blocked shots as the top-ranked Royals surged in the second half past Lakeville North in Class AAAA. She spurred a 20-2 second half run after North had tied the game at 17-all.

3. Tyseanna Johnson, DeLaSalle
Johnson was a force all across the court, scoring 32 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists as DeLaSalle opened its defense of a state title with an easy victory over Monticello.

Honorable mention: Rebekah Dahlman, Braham
It may have come in a losing effort, but setting the new career scoring record is not an accomplishment to overlook. With 29 points in the final game of her junior year, Dahlman is already atop the charts -- and perhaps poised for 5,000 career points.
