Rogers' Josh Turnquist
Local college coaches looking for size to add to their line-up should cruise over to Hopkins High School Saturday night for the Minnetonka versus Rogers contest. Six-foot-9 Michael Schreiber of Rogers is off the table after signing with Northern State this month but 'Tonka bigs Latrell Love and Andrew Turnblad along with Rogers four man Josh Turnquist are all still available and doing battle at the Girls Breakdown Tip Off Classic. NSIC, NAIA, MIAC, and WIAC coaches should all check it out.
As good as those four players are the game will likely be won in the back court. Both teams have different mixes with Rogers playing seniors who are stepping into bigger roles. Those players include returning part time starter Austin Barbeln, Chase Cleveland, and Jack Anderson. 'Tonka will use junior guard Grant Kellogg and freshman standout Andrew Grosz at point with juniors Riley Dearring and Malcolm Moore along with senior Joe Risinger on the wing.
Minnetonka was just 4-23 last year but this off-season the Skippers won six games and finished as semifinalists at Tubby Team Camp, they won seven of eight games in the highly competitive Minnetonka Fall League, and last weekend they defeated Osseo 31-25 in a weekend jamboree. Rogers is coming off a 19-9 season where it finished as section runners-up to eventual state champion Orono.
